Cracking the Horse Betting code in Singapore

The Singapore Turf Club was initially known as the Singapore Sporting Club when it was established in 1842. Along with some casinos and online games, it is significant for Singaporeans to gamble.

Today, it is Singapore’s only authorized horse racing operator and totalisator services. Essentially, it serves as an agent for the government Tote board, which transfers excess funds to charitable organizations.

Races are held virtually every Friday and Sunday throughout the year, almost every week. Apart from a few cross-border races open to horses based in Malaysia, most of the 100-plus race meetings are restricted to locally trained horses.

Given that Singapore does not have a breeding business, all of the country’s thoroughbred bloodstock is imported from abroad, mainly from Australia and New Zealand, with a small amount also coming from Japan, England, Ireland, France, and the United States of America.

Major Horse Races in Singapore

Singapore Gold Cup: Kranji Racecourse in Singapore hosts the Singapore Gold Cup, a Thoroughbred horse race, around the end of November. The domestic Group One event is a 2,000-meter turf race available to 3-year-old and older domestic horses.

Singapore Derby: This is a thoroughbred horse race that takes place every year in mid-July at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore. The domestic Group One event is contested over a distance of 1800 meters.

Lion City Cup: Held each April since 1974, the Lion City Cup is generally regarded as Singapore’s most significant domestic sprint competition. The domestic Group 1 event takes place over 1200 meters and is available to horses aged three and over.

Raffles Cup: This race is the second leg of the Singapore Triple Crown Challenge, and it is usually contested at Kranji in October. The domestic Group 1 event is run on turf over 1800m and is available to horses three years old and older.

Betting System in Singapore

The Singapore Turf Club is a charitable organization that uses a Pari-Mutuel system for betting. This means that all bets are subject to a fee, but are then added to a pool that pays out winners.

The simple win bet is one of the simplest and most prevalent wagers, in which you stake on the horse you believe will cross the finish line first.

The place bet, which pays out if your preferred horse finishes first or second, is the second-most popular form of wager. A show bet is a similar sort of bet that ensures a win if your horse finishes first to third in the finishing lineup.

You can also place exotic bets like trifectas and triple trios with the Singaporean race track. Since there aren’t any bookmakers, you won’t need to worry about bookies taking your money.

Tips for Horse Racing

There’s only been one group of punters able to win long-term in horse racing. Bill Benter and Alan Woods were able to win millions of dollars in Hong Kong during the 1990s using a computer algorithm, but that result hasn’t been recreated yet.

According to Bloomberg, Bill Benter and Alan Woods were card counters that built a strong reputation as a blackjack team based on Edward Thorp’s system. When they were kicked out of the Las Vegas casinos, they decided to take on Hong Kong racing at the Happy Valley racecourse.

The Hong Kong jockey club takes a 17% cut, so they needed to win many races. Although they built on work done by William Ziemba, Bill Benter was the gambler who cracked the horse-racing code.

Due to machine learning, it should be possible to create an algorithm better than Benter’s, but until that happens, know that horse betting is not like sports betting. Handicapping horse racing is more difficult because nobody has great information.

Do your Homework

Your first time at the races, you should look at everything that happens on race day. Bettors can look at the horses before the races but don’t get much information.

You should at least look at the horse’s history.  Any information may make a significant difference and can affect your decision to place a bet.

You can get  the information you need to inform your betting strategy on the racing forms or form guides offered at the race track. You can also do a quick Google search.

The jockey’s expertise and winning record are also essential points to consider.  Jockeys make a big difference in horse racing.

The simple win bet is one of the simplest and most prevalent wagers, in which you stake on the horse you believe will cross the finish line first.

The place bet, which pays out if your preferred horse finishes first or second, is the second-most popular form of wager (and one of the most usually won). As you can see, this wager effectively doubles your odds of winning.

A show bet is a similar sort of bet that ensures a win if your horse finishes first to third in the finishing lineup.

Establish a Bankroll

I am going to recommend that you set aside a specified amount of money to be used solely for betting purposes, which is referred to as your ‘bankroll.’ Keep in mind that you should only wager what you can afford to lose.

The size of your bankroll is entirely up to you, but it is vital to start with a substantial sum that allows you to win more than a few dollars while having just a little influence if you lose.

Wagering Strategy

A reasonable rule of thumb is to wager no more than around 5 percent of your whole bankroll on any individual race. This increases your odds of overcoming a streak of bad fortune. Another strategy that some people believe is more successful is wager a specific amount to win a specific amount.

The most crucial guideline to remember is to be disciplined yourself when wagering. Consecutive losses are inevitable at some time, and maintaining dedication to your staking approach can assist you to offset even the worst losing streaks and keep your bankroll stable in the process.
